About Me

I was born in Colorado and moved to Michigan when I was 11 years old. Although I have sometimes wondered what my life would have been like had I stayed in Colorado, I love the life that God has given me, and I would not exchange it for anything.

I grew up in a wonderful loving family who have taught me more than I will ever realize or appreciate. That’s them in the picture. Poor Tyler is the short one in our family!

I was home schooled from 5th grade through high school and went on to attend a Christian university about 45 minutes from my home during those four years. My junior and senior years of college were some of the hardest and best years of my life. I experienced friendship, grief, exhaustion, and love to degrees I never knew possible. I graduated from college in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies. And while that may sound like I attended college to become a stay-at-home-mom, my career goal is actually to work at an organization like an adoption agency or a pregnancy resource center. But if all of that studying only lands me a job as a SAHM (stay at home mom), it would still all be worth it.

Currently, however, my career has taken a detour in a direction I had never dreamed – or even night-mared for that matter (Is that a word?) I work as a phlebotomist (A person who draws blood — not to be confused with a vampire. Or a lobotomist, thank you very much) at a plasma donation center. Although I was once terrified of needles, I began getting allergy shots in 2007 and then donating plasma in 2008 which led me to this job in 2009. I cannot explain to you how ironic it is that I am now inflicting pain on these poor humanitarians that come to donate their life-blood. Actually their life-plasma, but “life-blood” flows better, don’chya think? Anyway, all that is to say that I, quite surprisingly, enjoy my current job, although I look forward to a future career that is more alligned with my interests and passion.

Meanwhile, my husband of (almost) 2 years, Tyler is working as a 4th grade teacher at a local elementary school.  He is an amazing guy who loves to make me laugh and has taught me how to laugh at myself as well. That’s us with his family on the right. The best way that I can explain our relationship to you is that it’s like a magnet. We are polar opposites in many ways: I am emotional, idealistic, optomistic, impatient, and silly; he is rational, even-tempered, humble, patient, and likes to pick on *ahem* silly people (meaning me). But we are also very alike in our values and beliefs and our love for each other.

In the last year God has blessed us several major life events. First, He provided a permanent teaching job for Tyler. He had previously spent 1 1/2 years long-term subbing at this same school, when God opened up the opportunity to make his title official. It’s a great school in a great area, and we are so thankful to be where we are.

Once all of that fell into place we decided we were ready to establish some degree of permanence, and began looking a houses. In October of 2011 our offer was accepted on a beautiful little house in the country, and in November we learned that it appraised for $16,000 less than what our agreement had been. Which was all a bowl of cherries until it became the pits.  Because of the circumstances, the seller decided to do a short sale with the house, dragging things out until mid-February when we were finally able to close! But it was well worth the wait. We saved that $16,000 on the cost of the house, plus we were able to miss out on several major snow storms that would have been back-breaking to clean up after.

So here we are, finally in our cozy little home, learning what it means to be home-owners and basking in the beauty of the country life.
